Seacrist, Wurster win national titles; Team Ohio second in 16U, sixth in Junior

Names change, faces look different, but the one constant is the neighborhood.

Team Ohio came to Fargo, N.D. for the 16U and Freestyle National Championships and once again crushed the competition.

Tommy Wurster (120 pounds) took home a national title in 16U to help Ohio finish second in the team race. Rylan Seacrist (113) won his title at 113 in the Junior circuit and Team Ohio finished sixth.

Both squads combined to produce 16 All-Americans and went back home on the bus with enough stop signs to cause a traffic jam.

“We made a big statement this year,” Wurster said. “Our dual teams went out and did great. Here, we really outdid ourselves here. I think Ohio is really making that statement.”

Wurster made a huge mark on the tournament with a late takedown to win 120. Seacrist hit a gigantic four late as well for his crown at 113.

“It’s the people who keep going and try to do the little things on and off the mat,” Seacrist said. “It’s the people that strive to get better every day. They go into the practice room and try to get better. They’re not just going through the motions.

“I think the people who All-American-ed showed what they could do, and their hard work paid off.”

Michael Boyle (2nd,215), Bennett Wachter (5th, 100), Loc Webber (6th, 113) and Ayden Dodd (6th, 120) were All-Americans as well in the Junior division.

Carter Smith (2nd, 94), Cohen Reer (3rd, 100), Grady Moos (4th, 88), Cole Speer (4th, 132), Frankie Pieffer (4th, 190), Xander Horak (4th, 215), Weston Borgers (5th, 138) and Tommy Rowlands (5th, 150) placed in the 16U brackets.
